My current favorite Audi is the least Audi of all the Audis.
It’s an A3, since it and the new A4 are practically the same car visually.
Yes it’s a Golf in an entry-level luxury rental suit but look at it. It manages to look classy and modern without looking like... well, like the Lexus IS (which don’t get me wrong, I like.)
It appears it no longer gets the 1.8T as the base engine, but rather the 1.4T? Unless that’s just the European model and they’ll shoehorn the 1.8T in for us. Either way it still gets the 2.0 TFSI which gets a fancy-shmancy 7-speed dual clutch box like the A4.
Speaking of Europe they get a nifty (and thrifty) 1.0 TFSI 3-Cylinder version with 115hp. And Matrix LED headlights I’m sure won’t be allowed on our shores because it’s still 1986 if you ask the NHTSA and their headlight regulations.
On another note: the more you type Audi, the stranger it looks.

I see more modern than classy. I can’t personally think of any real classy looking car sold today. Give me a sec to ponder...

This and the TT have fantastic interiors for what they are. But I still cant get over that VW chassis, which is sad because they both are about the perfect size.

For what it’s worth, I’ve heard nothing but praise for the MQB chassis.

Has a flipped Scion grille too...

Audi dashboards drive me insane, the meh we’ll just stick a screen in the middle with zero effort to integrate it. And it doesn’t even look like the air vents fit.
Sorry don’t mean to trash on the car you’re liking, just an opportunity to complain about Audi interiors.

It’s a handsome car. And I initially read that to refer to the Audi that was least like an Audi. For me, that’s the R8. Most desirable as well.

I hate to be that guy, but I would have stretched my budget to buy one of these if I could get a manual.
And on your other note: At work I frequently send reports with the word ‘Audit” in the title, but have on more than one occasion have forgotten the T when sending it to other people.

At least the screen goes down into the dash when not in use unlike some other German makes *cough* Mercedes *cough*
Plus with the virtual cockpit cluster, the screen could be hidden damn near 100% of the time.

The chasis is great, Quattro is FWD biased but a great chasis nonetheless. (MQB car owner)

Some sort off Rolls-Royce maybe? I think the new Dawn convertible is pretty damn classy.

But its not the same :(

My only response is its not “real” quattro.

I’d honestly rather get a Golf R because hatch.

I would rather it be integrated, who actually closes these screens?

I wish my favorite Audi was more attainable. :(
![]() 04/07/2016 at 10:39 |

I don’t think any new Audi has “real” Quattro anymore save the A8 maybe?

For some reason I prefer the Audi.
Like I said, I’m strange.

FTFY

I would because I’d try to use the virtual cockpit all the time, but I use all the gimmicky crap cars offer. Like the speed limiter in my M3 that just starts making noise when you go past the set speed.

Give it a few years to let that good ole’ German car depreciation set it!

The more you know!
They’re all on the same platform.

The fact that it’s a tarted-up Volkswagen probably makes it the most Audi of all the Audis, actually.

Jaguar XE and XF? They’re modern but not too much, classical but not retro, and definitely restrained enough to be classy in my book. As long as you don’t specify gigantic matte black wheels, red brake calipers or front spoilers, those are the enemies of class.

They’re not all like that though, look at the new TT. No central screen, everything turned towards the driver. That kind of classical interior design is hard to find nowadays, it’s proper sportscar stuff for a car that’s not quite a sportscar in other regards. I love it.

Aren’t all “Quattro” systems made by some other company now?
![]() 04/07/2016 at 11:56 |

A lot of things aren’t the same.

Well, my biggest complaint is the screen. If there’s no screen that’s not as big of an issue.

That .... that is a fair point.

I agree, a lot of stuff is going the flashy route and not the classy, understated route. Not that I have a huge issue with flashy, because some still look great, but classy is definitely harder to find. I can think of a couple classy cars though, because Volvo is doing it really well imo. The new XC90 is classy, and even though it's not for sale yet, I saw a new S90 and that thing is beautiful.
